John Brown was an unapologetic abolitionist known for his raid on Harpers Ferry in 1859. Fierce as a starving lion in his opposition to slavery. He was a man who was tired of the "hurry up and wait" approach of pacifist abolitionists. He was tired of nonviolent resistance while the state-sanctioned murder, sale, and brutalization of black people occurred daily.
Inspired by the slave revolts of Nat Turner and Toussaint L'Overture's in Haiti, Brown was ready to fight fire with his own blazing flames. While other abolitionists tried moral persuasion and political agitation; John Brown went to war. He was willing to use militant violence toward what he deemed as a necessary end. The freedom of 4 million enslaved people.
